Preheat your oven to 400°. Grease twelve 2 to 2 1/2-inch muffin pan cups. Mix both flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and and brown sugar in a separate bowl until fluffy. Beat in the eggs to blend well, and then add the milk. Stir the milk mixture into the flour mixture only until just blended. Quickly fold in the apple and nuts, then spoon the batter into the prepared muffin pan cups, filling nearly to the top. Bake for 18-20 minutes until lightly browned and a sharp knife comes out clean from the center.
