Cut the sausage into 2-inch lengths. Place in a dutch oven with about 2 inches of water and simmer on low heat until the meat until the meat is no longer pink. Drain the sausage, leaving a small amount of drippings in the pan. Add the tomato products, water, basil, parsley, sugar, pepper, and romano cheese. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
