Cream the butter, then add the sugar gradually and beat until fluffy. Beat the eggs yolks until thick and combine with the butter mixture. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together, then add alternately with milk to the creamy mixture. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Turn into a large well-greased plate and bake in a moderate oven for 25 minutes. Split open and spread with the cream filling and dust with powdered sugar.
