Beat the peanut butter, shortening, brown sugar, sugar, egg and vanilla extract at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy in texture. Stir together the flour, baking soda and salt, then gradually add to the peanut butter mixture, beating at low speed until blended, then stir in the chocolate morsels. Drop the batter by the rounded spoonful onto a baking sheet. Bake the cookies at 375° for 10 to 15 minutes. Let stand on the sheet for 2 minutes, then remove to cool on a wire rack.
