Preheat the oven to 350° and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil and 3 egg whites. Mix at high speed of an electric mixer for 2 minutes. Gently stir in the crushed cookies. Pour batter into the prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until it tests done in the center. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove from the pans and completely cool on the racks. Combine 1/2 a cup of confectioners' sugar, shortening, vanilla and 2 egg whites in a mixing bowl, blending well. Beat in the remaining confectioners' sugar until the frosting is smooth and creamy. Fill and frost the cake, then garnish with additional cookies.
