This bread is best made the day before.

Cream the sugar and shortening. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Sift together the flour and salt and then blend into the egg mixture. Add the baking soda to the buttermilk and then mix with the bananas. Blend into the flour mixture lightly - don't overmix. Pour into a greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pan and bake at 350° for about 1 hour.
