Egg Nog

Stir together the egg and sugar in a large saucepan, then gradually stir in the milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, 18 to 20 minutes or until the mixture is thickened and coats a metal spoon. Remove from the heat, then stir in the brandy, rum and vanilla. Cover and chill for 8 hours. Beat the whipping cream at high speed with an electric mixer until soft peaks form, then fold into the chilled egg mixture. Garnish, if desired.
