Mix the salad oil, sugar and eggs and low speed until creamy and smooth. Sift the flour with the salt, soda and baking powder, then add the vanilla. Add the flour mixture in small amounts to the liquid mixture, beating well after each addition. Finish mixing by hand. Fold in the nuts and apples and spread in a 9x13-inch greased pan. Bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes. Top with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
