Butter one side of each slice of of bread and arrange the 4 slices, buttered side down on a clean surface. Divide the cheese evenly among the 4 slices of bread. Arrange the tomato slices over cheese, cutting the slices in half to fit if neccessary. Scatter the basil leaves over the tomatoes and top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up. Place the sandwiches on a medium-hot grill, off of direct heat. Cook until the bread is golden and the cheese begins to melt, roughly 4 minutes. Turn the sandwiches over and continue grilling until the bread is golden and the cheese completely melted.
