Melt the butter. Beat the egg, then add the sugar, cocoa, butter, sifted flour and salt. Mix and pour into a shallow pan (1/4-inch thick). Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Frost with icing and cut into squares.

Instructions:

Melt the chocolate and butter in hot coffee over low heat. When cool, add vanilla and confectioners sugar and beat until of spreading consistency. Let stand over hot water for 10 to 15 minutes before frosting the brownies.
