Soak gelatin in cold water. Beat the yolks of the eggs until foamy and add in 1/2 a cup of sugar, lemon juice and butter. Cook this mixture until thick and pour it over the gelatin. Beat the egg whites stiff and add the other 1/2 cup of sugar by folding it into the egg whites, then add the whipped cream.
Line casserole pan with crushed vanilla wafers and pour the mixture over the top, then sprinkle the remaining wafer crumbs on top. Set in refrigerator to cool.
