Cream butter until soft, then add the sugar gradually, continuing to cream the mixture until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla to the mix and blend. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together, then add the sifted mixture into the butter mixture in thirds, with milk each time, beating well after each addition. Grease muffin cups and then fill with the mixture until 2/3rds full. Bake 15 minutes at 375°, then serve very hot.
