Let the shortening and butter sit at room temperature until soft. Cream together the butter, shortening and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift the flour, then add the salt to it. Dissolve the soda in the warm water, then add it to the buttermilk. Add the flour mix and the buttermilk mix alternately to the egg mixture, beating well between each addition, about 6 rotations. Add the vanilla, then beat until smooth. Pour the batter into a 10-cup bundt pan and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours at 325°
