Place oats in a food processor bowl or container in electric blender and process until finely ground. Set aside. Cream butter, gradually add sugars and beat well at medium speed with an electric mixer. Add egg and vanilla, beating well. Combine ground oats, flour, and soda - add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in semisweet chocolate morsels.
Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheets; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Yields 3 dozen cookies.
