In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light. Beat in the egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg and stir into the creamed mixture. Fold in the nuts and apples then spread evenly in a 9x13-inch greased and floured baking dish. Bake at 325° for 45 minutes. Top with butter sauce or ice cream then butter sauce.
