Sausage Cheese Grits

Bring the water to a boil in a large saucepan and stir in the grits. Return to a boil, cover and reduce the heat and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and add 2 cups of cheddar cheese, milk, butter, worcestershire sauce and garlic salt, stirring until the cheese melts. Stir in a small amount of the grits mixture into the beaten egg then add the egg mixture back to the grits mixture, stirring constantly. Spoon half of the grits mixture into a lightly greased 8-inch square baking dish and top with the sausage. Spoon the remaining grits mixture over the sausage. Cover and chill for 8 hours.

Remove from the refrigerator and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Bake uncovered at 350° for 40 minutes, then sprinkle with 1 cup cheese and bake an additional 5 minutes.
