Scone Bread

Heat the oven to 375°. Grease a baking sheet. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coasrse crumbles. Add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix lightly with a fork until the mixture clings together and form a soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 8 to 10 times, until the dough is smooth. Shape the dough into a ball, place on the greased baking sheet and put out in a 7-inch circle. With a sharp knofe, make 1/2-inch deep cuts, scoring the loaf into quarters. Bake the loaf for 45 to 50 minutes or until the loaf is well browned and sounds hollow when tapped on top. Remove to a wire rack and cool completely before slicing.
