Spaghetti Carbonara

In a medium frying pan, combine the olive oil, garlic, onion and italian bacon and let simmer for 30 minutes, being careful to not let the oil reach boiling. While the mixture is cooking, beat the eggs with lots of salt and fresh ground pepper. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook until al dente, approximately 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately drain the pasta when finished cooking and return to the pot, then stir in the eggs. Stir until the eggs are well mixed; they are cooked by the hot pasta. Make sure the eggs are thoroughly cooked before proceeding. Pour the mixture from the frying pan into the pasta and mix thoroughly. Add the parmesan cheese and mix again. Serve immediately and top with fresh basil.
