Spaghetti Sauce with Tomatoes

In a 6-quart Dutch oven over medium/high heat, in hot oil, cook the onions and garlic until tender. Stir in the remaining ingredients and heat until boiling. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, uncovered, 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until the sauce is the desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Throw away the bay leaves.

Ground Beef Sauce Version:

Prepare as above but cook 1 pound of ground beef with the onions and garlic, stirring to break up the meat. Drain off the fat before adding the remaining ingredients.
