Heat the nuts in a slow oven at 325° until light brown. Beat the egg whites until stiff, then fold in the sugar and salt. Fold the nuts into the meringue. Melt the butter in a 15x10-inch pan, then spread nut mixture over th ebutter. Bake in slow oven about 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes or until nuts are coated with a brown covering and no butter remains in the pan.
