Slice cucumbers very thin to make a gallon in volume. Put into a 2-gallon stone crock with the onions and peppers. Mix salt and ice and pack on top of the vegetables, then cover with a weighted lid. Let stand for 3 hours and then drain. Mix the rest of the ingredients together and pour over the vegetables in a large enamel or aluminum kettle. Bring to a boil over low heat, then immediately remove from the heat. Ladle immediately into hot sterilized jars and seal.
